How do I measure my lampshade?

How Much Fabric or Trim Do I Need for COM?

To estimate the yardage for your custom pendant, use these simple formulas:

• Fabric:
  Bottom Diameter × 3.2" ÷ 36 = estimated yards
• Trim:
  Top + Bottom Trim: (Top Diameter + Bottom Diameter) × 3.2" ÷ 36
  Single Trim: Desired Diameter × 3.2" ÷ 36

These provide a helpful starting point, but actual yardage can vary depending on the shade’s shape, taper, pleating, or pattern alignment. For accuracy, we recommend contacting us before sending your COM fabric, our team will confirm the exact amount needed for your design.

What is Customer's Own Material (COM)?

• COM means you can send us your own fabric or material to be used in creating your custom lampshade.
• COM (Customer’s Own Material) is an excellent option if you’d like to use a fabric not currently offered on our site, allowing for a fully customized lampshade.
• Many customers also choose our COM service when they need a cloth lampshade replacement made from their own material, ensuring a perfect match to their space.

What happens after I place my order, and where should I ship my fabric or material?

A member of the Lux team will reach out to confirm every detail and provide the address where you can ship your material. When shipping your Customer's Own Material (COM), please be sure to attach your order number to the fabric or material. This allows us to easily identify which order the material belongs to and ensures a smooth production process.

If needed, we will contact you within 24 hours during our regular business hours to assist you in working through and finalizing all design choices, ensuring you get a perfect custom shade (Hardback, Softback, Shirred, Pleated, Drop, Harp, Euro fitting, Wire Color, etc.). We'll review your measurements and fabric choice to ensure your custom shade is created perfectly.

How long does production take?

Standard production takes approximately 6–8 weeks from the time we receive your materials for COM orders. If you need your pendant sooner, our concierge service can often expedite production to 3–4 weeks, depending on material availability. Please see our Shipping Policy for more information.
